1872 A country in Northern Central Europe. A federation of states forming the German Reich. An empire till November 1918 and then a republic until the collapse of Germany in 1945. Until 1949 under Allied Military Control when the German Federal Republic was set up for W. Germany and the German Democratic Republic for E. Germany. See also notes before No. 899. I. GERMANY 1871–1945 1872. Northern areas including Alsace and Lorraine: 30 groschen = 1 thaler. Southern areas: 90 kreuzer = 1 gulden. 1875. Throughout Germany: 100 pfennig = 1 mark. 1923. 100 renten-pfennig = 1 rentenmark (gold currency). 1928. 100 pfennig = 1 reichsmark Arms embossed as Type A. |
