1949 III. GERMAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC The Federal Republic was set up on 23 May 1949. Until October 1990 it comprised the territory which formerly came under the British, American and French Zones. On 3 October 1990 the former territory of East Germany (German Democratic Republic) was absorbed into the Federal Republic. 1949. 100 pfennig = 1 Deutsche Mark (West). 2002. 100 cents = 1 euro.
